Management Cycle 101
Management Cycle 101
Management Cycle 101 is based on a proven management model that has been used successfully by managers for over 70 years. The course provides a case study where students can apply the principles of the model in a manufacturing operation setting. The management model uses four functions that can be applied to any environment and is the fundamental framework of management.
These functions include the following:
Planning
Organizing
Leading
Controlling
Each of the components of the POLC management system builds on each other. Planning involves creating the direction of the project or process. Organizing the project ensures that the sequence of events ae in the proper order as well as resources are properly allocated based on the plan. Leading includes self-direction as well as the direction of others involved in the project. Controlling consists of making adjustments to the efforts to ensure the plan is obtained.
Learners may apply the framework independently or in combination with other techniques. The POLC model has been a part of managing since the early 1900s. the creator of the model, Henry Fayol, wrote about his theories in 1908 after successfully turning around a mining company in France. The principles of the framework apply today as a thought process of management
