Structural Analysis I

Structural Analysis I

This course has been designed for undergraduate (civil) engineering students or those with an interest in developing a deeper understanding of introductory structural analysis concepts and methods. The lectures cover the essential concepts and methods of structural analysis and provide examples demonstrating their applications. The main topics discussed include: (1) statically determinate beam analysis; (2) truss analysis using the methods of joints and sections; (3) stability and determinacy; (4) shear and moment equations and diagrams in beams; (5) reaction, shear, and moment influence lines and their applications; (6) deflection in beams using classical techniques including the double integration method, the conjugate beam method, and the moment area method; (7) the use of the virtual work method for calculating deflection in beams, frames, and trusses; and (8) analysis of indeterminate structures using three classical techniques (the force method, the slope-deflection method, and the moment distribution method). The course contains video lectures, exercise problems and their solutions, and short quizzes. Our aim is to help our students learn fundamental structural analysis concepts; be able to analyze basic beam, truss, and frame structures; and have their questions answered in the context of the presented content. Please feel free to send us your technical questions as you go through the material. We are here to help. 1/15/2021
