This course will guide you through every process of drawing and painting a wave, whether you are a beginner or an experienced artist in pastels. Each lesson provides clarity on the materials needed for the course, and how to select your color palette to draw the shapes for the lesson. Soft pastels can be diluted with water or rubbing alcohol to create a rich base of translucent colors when using an underpainting technique. This course will teach you how to select your colors for the underpainting wash and blending the pastel with the rubbing alcohol. Some blending tools and brushes are needed for the underpainting. The purpose of the underpainting is to establish a solid base that won't mix with the colors of pastel applied over it. It eliminates smudging and mixing of colors so the pastel remains fresh when applied over the base layer. Then, you will learn pastel techniques on how to paint seawater, seafoam, and water reflections. Each lesson provides clarity on how to choose your color palette, and how to use a simple grid method to draw the shapes and placement of the wave. This course is ideal for beginners and does not require detailed drawing.
