Mixed Media Mountain Landscape
Mixed Media Mountain Landscape
Welcome to this mixed media art experience!
Thank you for choosing to spend some of your valuable time with me, learning to combine watercolour and acrylic paint with another medium you may or may not have used before...drywall compound! I hope that you find this to be an enjoyable challenge that you will use again in future projects!
As an artist-in-residence, I have successfully instructed hundreds of students in this art project during in-person classes over the past several years. Now I want to share this in an easily accessible way via video course!
In this course, I will take you step-by-step through creating a mixed media mountain landscape on a hardboard canvas. We will paint a background with watercolour, mid-ground with drywall compound and acrylic paint, and foreground details with acrylic paint. Your finished product will be both a sculpture AND a landscape painting!
This video incorporates STEAM concepts (Science/Technology/Engineering/Art/Math) throughout and is excellent for teacher or parent-led projects. If finding your inner da Vinci isn't exactly your focus, this is also just an enjoyable art-making experience for any adult! I have listed this course for "all levels," because you may be a beginner, or more advanced in any one of these art mediums, but perhaps you've never combined them all! This might just be a new challenge for you! The skills you will learn can be taken far beyond landscapes and applied to your favourite art subjects, such as animals, flora, or abstract art!
Through this course, you will learn some other very useful art skills to add to your tool belt:
Concepts of perspective, scale, distance and the rule of thirds
Identifying geometric and organic shapes to sketch accurately
Painting reflections, highlights and shadows to add depth and realism
Using unique tools and materials, such as palette knives and drywall compound
Using various types of paintbrushes for different purposes and effects
