This course covers the occupational health and safety hazards, recommended controls, and suggested best practices to safely work in confined spaces. The course is specific to the confined space requirements of the Canada Labour Code Part 2 and is designed to provide guidance for personnel working in federally regulated workplaces in Canada. It is also useful for safety professionals studying for the Canadian Registered Safety Professional Examination (CRSPEX) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician Examination (CRSTEX), especially those who normally do not work in federally regulated workplaces.

Definitions and Concepts – Canada Labour Code Part II and other jurisdictions
Identification and Management – Labelling, control / securement, preventing unauthorized access, permitting systems, distinguishing between permitted and non-permitted spaces
Hazard Assessments – Developing, managing, and maintaining confined space hazard assessments; typical confined space issues for hazard assessment
Training – For entry personnel, confined space attendants, and rescue personnel; considerations relating to equipment and procedures relating to rescue; confined space rescue team composition and drills
Confined Space Entry in Practice – Entry procedures, entry management, hot work management, atmospheric testing, oxygen level minimums, gas layering and sampling, ventilation considerations; PPE used
Confined Space Rescue – Organizational capability, team selection, attendants, rescue personnel, confined space entry, minimal recordkeeping requirements, incident reporting.
