Pre-Stressed Slab Design with a Practical Example in RAPT
Pre-Stressed Slab Design with a Practical Example in RAPT
RAPT is a very powerful program for reinforced and pre-stressed concrete design of structural systems and the aim of this course is to teach you how to use this software in order to quickly design and analyse a prestressed concrete slab. This will be a preliminary design that we do in the office in order to calculate the slab thickness and required reinforcement.
To be a successful structural engineer you need to be competent in using the relevant structural engineering programs that you might not get the chance to learn in university but are very essential in your future professional life. Also, pre-stressed concrete design is usually neglected in university and so most engineers need to learn it themselves which will be challenging for them.
For this reason, I have created this course to give you the skills required to design and analyse the prestressed concrete slab with the RAPT program and to help you in your professional journey.
In this course, I will start with an overview of prestressed concrete slab concepts by looking at:
- Difference between Pre tensioning and Post-tensioning
- Code requirements for prestressed concrete slab design
- terminology of prestressed concrete slab design including Tendon, strands and tendon profile
- Structural framing of PT Systems
- Determination of the required amount of Load to be Balanced
- Desired Level of P/A or Prestress and how to calculate it
- Losses of prestress (Short term losses and Long term (time-dependent) losses)
- Deflections and crack control:
I will also make a new Rapt model from scratch and will explain every step of the design and analysis and how to review and interpret the Rapt results.
This course has been designed for structural engineers, graduate engineers, and university students.
By the end of this course, you will learn about prestress concrete slab design and also how to use RAPT software to design the slab.
