Beginner's Course on Gendered Leadership

Beginner's Course on Gendered Leadership

We are delighted to introduce this e-course called Beginner's course on Gendered Leadership on Udemy. This e-course is the basic version of our popular, 6-week Gendered Leadership course which has completed 4 cohorts and engaged with 130+ participants. It will provide the foundations of the gender discourse — feminist theories, waves of feminism, intersectionality, mainstreaming gender into policy-making, and models of leadership. Learners can take the course at their own pace. After completing it, if interested, they can apply for the 6-week advanced Gendered Leadership Course.

Section 1 : Introduction and Gender in Everyday Life
The introductory session is divided into 2 parts. In the first part, we will understand some commonly used terminologies related to gender. And then, we will talk about the Basic Feminist Theory in which we will cover the sex/ gender distinction; Gender as a Social Construct; Gender stereotypes and Unconscious bias.

Section 2: Waves of Feminism
In this session we will understand the history and waves of feminism. As discussed in the previous class, feminism is the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. People began to talk about feminism as a series of “waves” in 1968 when the second feminist wave hit the West. Hence, what we will now discuss is waves of feminism in the western context.

Section 3: Intersectionality
In this session, we will understand what Intersectionality is. The theory of intersectionality is something that came out of Black feminism. Racial inequality was a factor that was largely ignored by first-wave feminism, which was primarily concerned with gaining political equality between white men and white women. Feminism was in dire need of diversity, moving away from experiences of cis white women. Black women were largely eliminated from the mainstream movement. In 1970s, black feminist scholar activists a number of whom were also LGBTQ, developed theoretical feedback.

Section 4: Gender Mainstreaming
In this session, we will talk about what Gender Mainstreaming is, why we need it, and how we do it.

Section 5: Gender in Leadership
In this session, we discuss the role of Gender in leadership. In the first section we will understand the ways in which women lead. In the second section we will discuss of models of women leadership. Finally, we look at a case study that shows how women leadership proved to be effective in the particular case.
