Some words come from other languages - called loanwords or cognates, where there is little or no change. They may have the same meaning:

• Carbon = Carbón

• Conclusion = Conclusión

• Formula = Fórmula

Other foreign words that sound the same, but have different meanings are called false friends:

• Pregunta ≠ Pregnant

• Recordar ≠ Record

• Carta ≠ Card
