Lasertherapy in dogs and cats - Veterinary Medicine

Lasertherapy in dogs and cats - Veterinary Medicine

Welcome to this course, where you will find theoretical and practical content on the use of therapeutic laser in small animals, with a description of the mechanisms of action, therapeutic effects, forms of application, indications and contraindications of this physical agent.

We are very happy to bring you the best up-to-date information in this new comprehensive Veterinary Laser Therapy training!

Laser therapy includes treatments that use light. In this course we will deal with locomotor and nervous pathologies.

But laser therapy and phototherapy have a much wider field of action, very useful for the clinical veterinarian, and indispensable for the physiotherapist.

The effects of the low intensity laser are multiple:

- Biochemical effect: the release of preformed substances such as histamine, serotonin, brakinin is stimulated. It stimulates DNA synthesis and modifies normal enzymatic reactions, both excitation and inhibition. It stimulates ATP production inside cells, accelerating mitosis and interfering with prostaglandin production, similar to the mechanism of some anti-inflammatory drugs. It has fibrinolytic action.

- Bioelectric effect: normalization of the membrane potential rebalancing and normalizing the cellular functional activity.

- Bioenergetic effect: it is the ability of the mitochondria to store energy, it is absorbed when applying the laser and retains it. The energy captured by the cells functions as an exciting message, contributing to the normality of the altered functions.

These effects produce physiological and therapeutic responses.

The laser increases circulation, stimulates the hypothalamus and the adrenal with the release of cortisol and stimulates the release of beta endorphins that relieve pain.

The laser increases tissue repair processes, due to the stimulation of the healing capacity of the connective tissue, as well as the new formation of vessels from the existing ones.

Increases the speed of regeneration of damaged nerve fibers, stimulation of bone tissue repair, activation of fibroblasts responsible for the formation of collagen, incidence in the disappearance of calcifications.
