In this course, you'll learn about the biological mechanisms that are at play in PTSD and complex trauma. You'll explore the trauma response of the body and a develop a holistic framework for mitigating the biological survival responses. You'll develop an understanding of the changes in the brain and body from long standing trauma and the stressors that can cause physiological dysregulation. Neurogenesis, neuroplasticity, regulation of the biology and transformation are discussed as an important context for trauma healing and recovery. You'll learn why it's important to instill the first skill of the "safety sense" before other interventions. You'll discuss and explore the 5 Internal Stressors, simple but powerful physiological mechanisms that could be contributing factors and preventing recovery. In addition, you'll learn about the 2 common external stressors which can trigger or worsen the trauma response. You'll learn practical, holistic and simple ways to address these 7 common stressors and supportive therapies that can help balance the physiology to support trauma recovery. You'll learn about common medical issues that can arise from long-standing trauma. Lastly, trauma integration therapies will be discussed and post-traumatic growth.
