Kung Fu Weapons - The Cane
Kung Fu Weapons - The Cane
The Bodhidharma Cane is a traditional folk weapon popular with Shaolin practitioners. Bodhidharma, also known as Damo or Tamo in Chinese, is the symbolic founder of kung fu and zen. This potential weapon can be carried with you wherever you go and can pass any security checkpoint since it is viewed as a walking aid and not as a possible weapon. However, this tool, when used effectively, can be a devastating weapon for self-defense.
The techniques presented within this course use a traditional Bodhidharma walking cane with a "pistol grip" type handle and a single tip at the end to support your balance. This type of cane can be readily found in most commercial drug and department stores, or a specific type of fighting cane can be purchased through most martial arts supply stores. Fighting with the cane involves pokes and jabs with the tip, thrusts, pushes, and blocks with the shaft.
This course teaches the stances, blocks, strikes, self-defense techniques and kata for the Bodhidharma cane in full detail. It is an ideal teaching aid for review, rank testing, competition, and self-defense.
