Intro to Portrait Photography

Intro to Portrait Photography

This is a five unit module that will start with the importance of portraiture in history, today and for future generations. Then we'll have a somewhat technical discussion about how to get the best out of your camera's settings specifically for portraiture. We willl talk about continuous shutter modes, continuous autofocus, face detect and why automatic exposure is not a good solution in many situations. Then, we'll talk about lens choices and what effects different lenses will create in your portraits. I'll use several examples running through the range of focal lengths from wide to telephoto and the effect they have on the face. Then, we'll move to perspective and angle and what it communicates to the viewer about your subject. We'll cover the upward "hero" shot, straight on, and downward angles. Lastly, we'll finish up with talking about lighting and creating a flattering look for your subject. There are three downloadable quizzes with a few questions each to help you cement some of the phrases and technical information.

This module is included in my full Intro to Digital Photography Course. If you want to learn about landscape, still life & food, digital black and white, and more, then I encourage you to consider purchasing the full course.
