Latin Participles: An Introduction

This course will help you to recognise and understand participles in Latin. These are used very extensively in the language, and students often struggle at first to make sense of them.

The course begins with a basic introduction to what participles are and how they are used in English, before moving to their forms and uses in Latin. Because English and Latin are structurally similar, all explanations of how participles work in Latin are accompanied with examples in English. By the end of the course, you will be more confident and more fluent in your translation of participles in a Latin text.

The course is delivered via three videos. The first contains a general discussion of participles in English, followed by an explanation of the Latin present participle. The second explains the perfect participle. The third explains the future participle. There are complete explanations of how these participles are formed, and there are complete tables of the participles kept on screen during the discussion of examples.

There are no exercises in this course. However, I advise you to download and print the pdf material supplied, and to watch the videos more than once. So long as you take them just a little at a time, Latin participles are not particularly hard.
