If you want to pursue an academic career, it is important be able to write and publish journal papers. Today's academic careers are heavily reliant on publishing; building a high-quality publication record is an essential component of improving your academic credentials, visibility among your field peers, and viability as a researcher. The goal is to give you a good head start on writing your next scientific paper, while providing specific places to find more detailed advice. Don't wait for the ideal phrases to come to you before you begin composing. Remember that everyone produces a poor first draft, but it provides you with something to work with as you go toward writing your final paper.
