Fundamentals of Polymer Chemistry
Fundamentals of Polymer Chemistry
The course of a great benefit to chemistry and material science students who are starting their study in polymer. Enroll now to learn about polymer basics and chemistry.
This course focuses on the important synthetic polymers and how they are prepared in industry. At the beginning of the course, you will learn how to calculate the molecular weight of polymers. The difference between the crystalline and amorphous domains. The course also explains the glass transition temperature (Tg) and melt transition temperature (Tm) of polymers.
The course moves on to cover industrially significant polymers prepared by step growth polymerization, such as polyesters, polyamides, polycarbonates, and polyurethane.
We will introduce some polymers that can be prepared by chain growth polymerization and the major differences between the mechanisms by which these polymers are prepared.
We will also talk about coordination polymerization as a special type of catalytic polymerization and the history of developing this method.
We are going to talk about cyclic rings and the factors that affect the tendency of rings to undergo ring-opening polymerization. You will see that ring-opining polymerization proceeds through a similar rote to chain-growth polymerization, where radicals, cationic, and anionic groups can be used to prepare these types of polymers. Or ring-opening metathesis, or oxidation/reduction, can also be used to prepare these polymers.
