Basic Working at height safety
Working at height remains one of the biggest causes of fatalities and injuries at construction industry. Common cases include improper risk assessment and falls from ladders . 'Work at height' means work in any place where, if there were no precautions in place, a person could fall a distance liable to cause personal injury. Hierarchy of safety controls starts from
a) Elimination - where the work is possible to do at the ground level, that should be the first priority
b) Reduce - Reduce the number of men working at height and possibly reduce the working hours at height where practicable
c) Controls - Introduce job change and job breaks, provide appropriate access such as scaffolds and ladders etc
d) PPE - Provide appropriate personnel protective equipment such as full body safety harness , provide training and awareness on use of safety harness and provide suitable anchoring points.

a) The hazards due to work at height
b) The hazards due to fall of objects from height
c) How to prevent the fall of person?
d) How to use the safety harness?
e) How to select the anchorage points and life line points?
f) How to inspect a full body safety harness and how to wear it?
g) General precautions to prevent fall of objects from height.
The course is illustrative with pictures and one should be able to easily understand the basic work at height precautions, at the end of this sessions.
