You Are The Best Employee, Now Become Unstoppable
Thank you for your interest in this course.
I have written several eBooks and courses on various subjects to aid employees in the workplace. Some have been on communication skills, some on writing skills, a lot of emphasis on leadership skills and so on.
I have taken the four most popular courses currently that I have published and put them in one what I call Mega course. Each subject discussed in this course will aid you in becoming an unstoppable employee. What do I mean by unstoppable? Well, what is your goal, to make a lot of money, position yourself for advancement opportunities or just make sure your job is secure in these uncertain times. Or perhaps it’s all three! Each one of these reasons, when mastered, makes your an unstoppable employee. Read on for a description of each of the four subjects taught in this one Mega course.
Communication
Communication is the only way of getting information across to the other party. However good the information, quick and effective deliverance is extremely important as the attention span of most of us today is very short, and this is especially so if the material being communicated is rather boring.
Since our minds are crammed with so much information, there is very little time or space to indulge in frivolous and irrelevant information thus the need to be precise and quick when communicating. Also, with hectic schedules and distractions to contend with, it is often quite hard to take the time to stop and pay attention to what is being communicated.
Hi, I’m Brent Dalley and I have spent my career teaching, coaching, counselling, instructing, encouraging, interviewing and sometimes even firing people. I have written several courses on the various aspects of communication, especially communication in the workplace.
Did you know that the most common reason for miscommunication is when the presenter does not really understand the message or even himself? It is important enough that I included it in this course and addressed it first.
Next you will learn how to use terms that invoke emotion in yourself and your audience.
I touch on body language as sometimes your audience will form an immediate opinion of you based on your body language and, if negative, that communication in less than 30 seconds has effectively shut down any further communication.
Finally, at the end of this section I will help you understand why a one minute presentation is so important in today’s world.
Body Language
Body language is another form of subtle communication often practiced consciously or unconsciously. This “language” is fast gaining the interest of many people. Body language though very relevant but can sometimes be wrongly interpreted, however it is still useful.
There are many forms of communication and sometimes a person’s body language can actually indicate more things than the spoken word. Learning to understand body language can be very beneficial both in the work environment as well as on a more personal front. Body language reveals personal feelings and reactions to other people’s feelings. However, it has yet to be proven to be a science form and is not a real indicator to anything as it can be and is often manipulated.
Most powerful people use this form of the unspoken word to make judgment calls which have proven to be a very effective way of getting and giving information. Some quarters qualify any and all movements in the body to be categorized as body movement; while others go even further to say that even breathing techniques fall in this category too.
When meeting someone for the first time, it is often a benefit to be able to read their body language signals to assess either the person or situation.
However again it may not be the best way to form an opinion because as mentioned earlier, body language can be manipulated. The art of body language is constantly being exchanged and interpreted between people on different levels of alternative communication.
It seems therefore important that we all gain a firm understanding of body language interpretation. You will get the basics in this course.
Training a Team
The primary and most important element of team training lies in the ability of the leader to instill the motto of working together towards the effective and successful achievement of a goal.
“Teamwork is so important that it is virtually impossible for you to reach the heights of your capabilities or make money that you want without becoming very good at it” - Brian Tracy
To discover the keys to building teamwork, you need to learn about what it means to be a team. You also need to learn about team building. These are the two concepts covered in this section.
· Do you really know what teamwork means?
· Exactly what is team building and how does it help in teamwork?
What kind of teams can use the team building exercises and learn to be a team?
By the time you complete the section, you will have found the answers to these questions.
Many leading companies have embraced the act of team building. They have come to realize just how important teamwork is. These organizations spend a lot of money and time investing in team building. This course also looks at why team building is important not just to the organization but also to every member of the team. So I’ll see you in the first lecture and together we will put together a winning team.
Working Well With Others
Probably more people than you realize spend the majority of their time working with others in an employment-related situation. And, unless we’re lucky, none of us get to pick who our co-workers are.
Unfortunately, not everyone knows how to get along with others. This can and usually does cause all kinds of difficult situations, making it almost impossible to get through the day.
It is a fact though, that working well with others is crucial. However, it's even more important in a workplace environment. Why? It boils down to things like efficiency, productivity, and employee morale... just to name a few.
The size of the company or business you work for really does not matter. The rules are basically the same if you work with one other person or 1,000. Everyone deserves the same level of respect and consideration.
During your job search, have you ever noticed the phrase “must work well with others” in the job description or on the application? If so, there’s a very good reason for this. Employers do not want to hire individuals who don’t work well with others. It typically causes problems right from the beginning. And as someone who has reviewed hundreds of resumes over my career, I can tell you everyone includes that on their resume whether it is a true statement or not, that’s how important it is.
Well, that’s the course outline. It sounds like a lot and it is but take it in little chunks, practice what you learn at work and even in social settings, with a little time and practice you will see an improvement in yourself and believe me, others will definitely see the changes.
Good luck in your life’s pursuits!
Getting ahead today is more than just knowing how to do your job. You need to stand out!
